Invitation to the 11th Two Riversides Film and Art Festival

“A story should have a beginning, a middle and an end, but not necessarily in that order.” It’s a famous sentence by Jean Luc Godard, one of the most original and controversial filmmakers, whose film is going to begin the festival this year.

Having his words in mind, we invite all of you to the 11th Film and Art Two Riversides Festival. Eight days full of films, concerts, exhibition previews, and most of all – discussions about art and life. You’ll be able to watch latest fiction films and documentaries; a very interesting retrospective of Michael Haneke, two-time Golden Palm winner; films starring Andrzej Seweryn as part of section “And God Created Actor”; as well as a theatrical feast – a monodrama entitled “Wokół Szekspira”. Section “Music – My Love” will amaze you with Chavela Vargas, an outstanding singer; a stylist of Tangerine Dream; wonders of Rolling Stones; and beautiful “La Jota” by Carlos Saura. The International Short Film Competition has new face this year – a professional jury composed of Maciej Dejczer, Anna Zamecka, and Marcin Koszałka. We have great documentaries which present the contemporary world in all its diversity. Cinema workshops will be an opportunity to meet such eminent figures as Agnieszka Holland, Andrzej Pagowski, Robert Gliński, and Andrzej Seweryn. “Niesfilmowani” can be your chance to speak to Polish writers of these times.

Great concerts at the Square and the opening concert, “Młynarski plays Młynarski” at the Castle in Kazimierz this evening, and the première of the documentary about Wojciech Młynarski with prominent guests will be an unforgettable experience. Finally, a film of Andrey Zvyagintsev entitled “Loveless” is a guarantee that the “middle” of all what you’ll experience during these eight days will arrive at the end of this festival, as should be with a good story – a good festival.

Submit your film to the 11th Two Riversides Festival

Two Riversides Film and Art Festival encourages everyone to submit their films for this year’s edition. We are looking for feature films and documentaries, as well as animations and experimental films. We are accepting applications until May 31st 2017.

The films can be submitted to the main Two Riversides program, namely WORLD UNDER CANVAS (above 60 minutes) and IN THE SHORT RUN (below 60 minutes).

We also have an open call for our SHORT FILMS COMPETITION, which for years has been enjoying popularity among viewers and authors who come to Kazimierz and Janowiec to talk about their – often first – productions. The competition accepts films of a running time up to 35 minutes – features, documentaries, animations, experimental films – produced in 2016 or 2017. Older films may also be accepted, as long as their screening at the Festival will be their first Polish presentation. The competition films will be judged by a Jury assembled by the Festival’s Program Department.

The competition has been part of Two Riversides since its second edition. For film directors it is a chance to make an appearance on the big screen, and to win financial prizes. The Main Award is 5000 zł, 2nd place – 3000 zł, 3rd place – 2000 zł.

Details concerning the requirements for particular sections are defined in the FILM SUBMISSION REGULATIONS.

To make the application process easier, films in all sections can be submitted using the FilmFreeway internet platform: www.filmfreeway.com/festival/tworiversides. Simply create an account for your film, upload a viewing copy and submit it to our Festival – submission fee is only five dollars. You can only submit one film directed by a given artist. Also this year there will be THE AUDIENCE POLL – the participating films are those from the “World Under Canvas” section. Feature-length film premieres from other sections may be included in the poll. Two Riversides audience will vote for the best productions. The final list of films participating in the poll will be announced on our our website no later than a week before the beginning of the Festival.

11th Film and Art Festival Two Riversides will take place on July 29th – August 6th 2017 in Kazimierz Dolny and Janowiec nad Wisłą.

Film and Art Festival Two Riversides will be launched, as always, in Kazimierz Dolny and Janowiec. The 11th edition will take place between July 29th and August 6th 2017.

Next year’s summer wouldn’t be complete without this celebration of film between July and August. Once more, cinema lovers can expect film premières (both Polish and foreign), special presentations, open-air screenings, as well as meetings with authors, of course. As is tradition, we will also be reaching out to other artistic branches, such as literature, music, and photography.

“We would like to give extra special thanks to those viewers who have been with the Festival since its first edition. They are the best example of how addictive Two Riversides is” – that is how Grażyna Torbicka, the Festival’s Artistic Director, summarised last year’s event. We are certain that the most faithful audience members will visit Kazimierz and Janowiec during the upcoming summer holidays as well. We hope, as always, that new generations will grow to love cinema with our help.
