DESCRIPTION

In 1985, two Zielinski brothers, 15-year-old Adam and 12-year-old Krzysztof, made their way to Sweden hidden under the chassis of a truck. The Polish authorities were determined to bring them back home, whatever the cost. The boys’ parents did not demand extradition as they thought the boys should decide their fate for themselves. As a result, the parents were stripped of their parental authority. Both boys remained in Sweden and lived with a foster family until they became of age. They saw Maciej Dejczer’s film at the Congress of Human and Citizen Rights in Strasbourg in 1989. They said that it fully reflected their experiences. The film characters, Jędrek and Grześ, live in hardship with their parents and numerous siblings in a living wagon. Their father, a history teacher, has been fired twice on the grounds of his political views. The boys want to make their dream of a better life come true and escape to the West.
