DESCRIPTION

On Christmas Eve 1993, with no clear motive, a nineteen year old student shoots dead several strangers. What was the connection between the killer and his victims? Haneke’s film resembles a broken mirror which somebody is trying to piece back together. In 71 clinically precise scenes, we encounter characters who all end up meeting in the same place. In the background, TV news pieces about pop stars intermingle with reports from contemporary wars. This study of inexplicable yet real violence is the last part of Henke’s trilogy which includes The Seventh Continent and Benny’s Video.
