Generations is a feature-length documentary drama produced to celebrate the anniversary of the Feature Film Studios in Wrocław. It is a story of contemporary Poland told using pieces of works made by the Feature Film Studios. The director selected little less than forty of out the four hundred and fifty titles produced in Wrocław. The movie clips, from A Generation by Wajda through films directed by Chęciński, Has, Kutz and Polański to those by Holland, Kieślowski, Marczewski, Zanussi and many others, combine into a tale of Poles over time, from the Nazi occupation through the terror of the Stalinist era, “small stabilization” of the late 1950s to early 1960s, the March 1968 political crisis, unfulfilled hopes of Gierek’s years and the period of martial law right to the breakthrough elections of 4 June 1989. Our guide to the contemporary Film Studios and Wrocław is… Zbyszek Cybulski, a legendary Polish actor, who found his tragic death in an accident in Wrocław.
