DESCRIPTION
A biography of Chavela Vargas (1919—2012), a Hispanic singer, performer, actress, “the first Mexican woman to wear trousers”, feminist, and Frida Kahlo’s lover. Although she made her debut at the age of 42, she released as many as 80 albums. Chavela’s lyrics about her lust for women, broken hearts, and the elusiveness of feelings are a reflection of the story of her long life. Full of dramatic plot twists and adversities, Chavela’s biography has been skillfully transferred onto the big screen and has won this year’s Berlinale Audience Award. Dressed in a red poncho and singing about lesbian love, Chavela has made her mark in history not only as an artist, but also, and more significantly, as a Mexican culture revolutionary.

Catherine Gund (1965) An Australia-born American director, producer, and screenwriter. An activist making interventional films for the LGBTQ persons and communities. In her engaging documentaries, she presents the advantages and points out the shortcomings of the American healthcare system. Her films have been featured on television and at film festivals all around the world. She lives in New York City and brings up her four children.Daresha Kyi (1962) A film and TV producer; screenwriter and director, graduate of the NYU Film School. Not only has she operated the camera, but also appeared in short films and in television programs. In the latter, she successfully played different roles—reporter, correspondent, and host of the TV programs about fashion, music and cinema.
