DESCRIPTION

Early 1980s. Silesian population is troubled by a serial killer of women who follows a fixed schema. When he targets a niece of the Communist Party’s First Secretary, a special group is formed to catch the “vampire of Zagłębie”, led by a young militia captain, Janusz Jasiński (Mirosław Haniszewski). This thriller, inspired by true events, focuses not only on the psychology of a criminal, but also on the cultural context of those times, giving an accurate social testimony of the Polish People’s Republic. Pieprzyca studies collective fears and desires, institutional deficiencies and politicians’ greed. Is it possible that not only a single offender, but the whole regime was on the side of crime?

DIRECTOR

Maciej Pieprzyca (1964) Graduate of journalism studies at the Silesian University in Katowice, screenwriting at National Film School (PWSFTViT) in Łódź, and direction at Radio and Television Department of Silesian University. Born in Katowice, he has a strong relation with Silesia region, both professionally and emotionally: it was here that he made his student films, Polish Television theater performances and feature films. Director of Life Feels Good (Chce się żyć), one of the biggest Polish movie hits in recent years.
