DESCRIPTION

New picture by the Russian master Andrey Zvyagintsev, hailed as a hit of the last Cannes Festival. The marriage of Boris and Zhenya, well-off urban forty-year-olds, doesn’t exist but on paper anymore. They both have an affair, feel resentful towards each other, and remain together mainly because of their flat, which they had put up for sale, and their twelve-year-old son Alyosha. The egoistic parents avoid any involvement in the upbringing of their child, who stands in the way to achieve their goals. One day, the boy disappears. A search begins, which becomes allows the director to line out a worrying image of contemporary Russia.

DIRECTOR

Andriej Zwiagincew (1964) Russian actor and director. Graduated from the Novosibirsk acting school. In the 80s, he went to Moscow, where he studied at Russian University of Theatre Arts (GITIS). Up to the end of the 90s, Zvyagintsev worked as an actor and director at a theatre, in television and advertising. A breakthrough in his career was his first feature film The Return, awarded Golden Lion at the Venice IFF and at the European Film Award for European Discovery of the Year, Prix Fassbinder.
