DESCRIPTION

Poi E is a simple but catchy song composed by Dalvanius Prime and Ngoingoi Pēwhairangi, which has become an unofficial national anthem of New Zealand. The song, performed by Pātea Māori Club, combining pop music from the 80s with traditional elements of Māori culture, occupied New Zealand record charts for over 30 years. With humor and vigor, the director talks about the circumstances leading to the creation of the song, about its history and most of all, about the emotions that Poi E has evoked in his countrymen. The film is the last part of Tearepa Kahi’s series about the history of New Zealand music.
