A biography of one of the most outstanding film directors of all time, directed by a lover of cinematography and the creator of The Artist, Michael Hazanavicius. Jean-Luc Godard (Louis Garrel) is about to begin the shooting of his La Chinoise. Despite having directed many important films of the French New Wave cinema, most prominently Breathless, Godard still remains a novice keen on experiments. His private life also enters a new stage. In 1967, Godard starts an affair with Anne Wiazemsky (Stacy Martin), his future wife and muse. Abounding in biographical anecdotes, Redoutable is the story of a turbulent relationship and an evolving portrait of an artist establishing his creative independence.
