DESCRIPTION

An acknowledged writer Max Zorn (Stellan Skarsgård) comes to New York City to promote his newest novel. His wife Clara, who works on his book together with his American publisher, awaits him there. In his new book, Max describes a big but unsuccessful affair. Upon arrival, the writer encounters a woman with whom he was once in love—the woman with whom he had the affair described in his novel. German-born Rebecca (Nina Hoss) is now a successful New York lawyer. Their meeting will bring back washed-out memories and long-forgotten passions. They will go together to Montauk at the very end of Long Island, a town which they once visited and which holds a special place in their hearts. Volker Schlöndorff’s second film after Homo Faber, based on Max Frisch’s prose.

DIRECTOR

Volker Schlöndorff (1939) German director. Schlöndorff was born in Wiesbaden, he studied in Paris where he graduated from film school and learnt onset from Alain Resnais and Jean Pierre Melville. One of the founders of New German Cinema. Golden Palm and Oscar nominee for Best Foreign Language Film for The Tin Drum and FIPRESCI Cannes Film Festival for Young Torless.
