DESCRIPTION

Beyond fairytale-like woods in the mythical scenery of Kłodzko Valley lives Janina Duszejko (Agnieszka Mandat)—a modern Renaissance woman, retired engineer and English teacher, an astrology enthusiast, but foremost an animal lover and a firm defender of their rights. On a winter night, Duszejko discovers the body of her neighbor, a poacher. In the absence of any conclusive evidence, apart from doe spoors, an aura of mystery surrounds the murder. Unheeded by the police, Duszejko decides to take matters into her own hands. The film is based on a novel of Polish author Olga Tokarczuk Prowadź swój pług przez kości umarłych.

DIRECTOR

Agnieszka Holland (1948) Polish film and theatre director and scriptwriter. Graduated from the Prague Film School in 1971. Winner of the FIPRSECI Cannes Film Festival for Provincial Actors. Initially associated with the “cinema of moral anxiety,” Holland has received three Academy Award nominations—for Angry Harvest. Europa, Europa, and In Darkness. Works both in Europe and in the United States. In 2014, she was appointed the chairwoman of the European Film Awards.

Kasia Adamik (1972) Graduated from École des Beaux-Arts in Paris and the prestigious Insititut Saint-Luc in Brussels. Director, producer and editor. Before stepping behind the camera, she worked as an artist. Author of storyboards, among others for Agnieszka Holland’s Total Eclipse and Washington Square.
