DESCRIPTION
Georg and Anna Schober, parents of little Evi, appear to be a stable Austrian family. They lead a regular life, have well-paid jobs as well as prospects for future promotion. One day, though, they inform their relatives that they go to Australia, the eponymous seventh continent. In actuality, they intend to put into practice a far more frightening plan. The idea for Haneke’s film debut supposedly came to him after reading a press article describing a drastic, not fully clarified story of a certain family. From the first shots, the work gives the sense of director’s chill and distance, which makes the whole even more disturbing, which soon became Haneke’s trademarks.
